Meet Our Featured Designer Betty...

Q. Betty how did it all start? How many years have you been selling on Ebay? How did you learn to sew?
A. I am an art lover and I have this gift for art in many ways.  I didn’t start designing boutique cloth, actually, this is the latest thing I've done in my life . I am a self taught, but I knew I could sew. I grew up watching my grandma sewing, my dad drawing, my aunt painting, my mom crocheting, etc.  but I remember this…when I was 12 those shirred dresses were on fashion, my mom bought me one but I wanted to have more in different colors, so I decided to make one myself, it didn’t come out that bad for being the first thing I made without supervision, but that was my last one too because I broke my grandma’s sewing machine, then my dad bought me some brushes and oils lol.

I used to live in South Florida where it is summer year round, but we moved to Central
Florida
like 6 years ago and we do have a winter here.  My daughter brought this little dog home, it was winter, and she was shivering all the time, so I crocheted her some sweaters, and they were so cute that my daughter insisted me to sell them on ebay, OK I said, it won’t hurt.  This is the way and what I started selling on ebay, but then looking at all those fabulous customs made me think why not, I can make one of those and see what happens.  My first boutique cloth was a chipmunks set, I got so many compliments when I listed it that encouraged me to keep going and I can’t stop now. I really love what I do and creating is my passion.

Q. Where do you get your inspiration?
A. I don’t have little kids anymore that can give me inspiration or ideas for a set.  I really don’t know what inspires me, I just feel it and keep going, making changes to my design till I am fine with the finish product.

Q. What type of fabric do you like to work with?
A. I love cotton, woven and knit with small prints.   I like my fabrics to be comfortable to children and to be of a good quality material because I put a lot of dedication and time into each piece that I make and I want it to last.

Q. What is your most favorite design of all times you have created?
A.I don’t have a favorite one, there are some designs that I like better than others, but they are all part of me.  Some have a lot of details, others a lot of work , appliqués, others have more creativity and others illusion, I can’t choose one lol .  I guess the most challenging one was the Ultimate Pink Princess Dress that I made last year for the Save the Queen Launch.

Q. How long does it take you to create a set?
A. It depends on my time and energy lol.  Some designs have a lot of work and they take me 2 or 3 days to complete, others don’t have a lot of work but take me that much because when I start them I don’t feel creative and I don’t know how to start them or what to make, others with less work take me 2 days but when I am under one day.

Q. What are your plans for the future? How do you see yourself a year from now?
A. My life is complete right now, but I do get a lil ambitious sometimes lol, I would like to do so many things in the future all related to children clothing design that I don’t know where to start.  I wish I could have more time to pursue my goals.  I hope I could do that in a year from now.

THANK YOU VANIA FOR THINKING OF ME FOR THIS INTERVIEW!
